The article analyzes the processes of the development of Azerbaijan's oil industry in the 20th century. The role and importance of the development of the oil industry of the last century in the formation of Azerbaijan's modern energy policy is noted. In modern times, Azerbaijan has built its foreign policy on the introduction of energy resources to the world market, energy security and environmental security. The country's geo-economic interests in the South Caucasus are based on using energy resources (both non-renewable and renewable) to increase national income and leverage the country's geopolitical influence. In this period, it is particularly relevant to analyze the impact of Azerbaijan's energy policy on the geo-economic situation of the South Caucasus region at the political level.
